UPDATE: April 1, 2014 2:03 p.m.:
Sheesh.
Well, there’s been another scheduling change for the Red Wolves (two on April 1, 2014 alone), and we’ve updated our backgrounds to reflect both adjustments. Below is the official announcement and vague explanation on why the need for the shift of the Utah State home game. Know this: as of the time stamped above, the schedules are accurate.
JONESBORO, Ark. (4/1/14) – Arkansas State Athletics announced Tuesday that two game dates on the Red Wolves’ 2014 football schedule have been changed, including their home game against Utah State and road contest at Texas State.
A-State and Utah State mutually agreed to move their game at Centennial Bank Stadium to Saturday, Sept. 20, after originally scheduling the contest for Sept. 27.
“We hope everyone understands we try to avoid changing home game dates, but this decision was made with the best interest of our program in mind,” said A-State Director of Athletics Terry Mohajir. “We apologize to our fans for any inconvenience this change may have caused.”
Additionally, the Red Wolves’ game versus Texas State at Bobcat Stadium will now be played Thursday, Nov. 20, rather than Nov. 22. The Sun Belt Conference and ESPN announced today the game will now be televised by ESPNU and kickoff at 8:30 p.m. (CT). A-State now has two nationally-televised games currently in place for 2014, also facing Louisiana-Lafayette at Cajun Field on Tuesday, Oct. 21, on ESPN2 at 7 p.m. (CT).
Below are details on the schedule from Arkansas State University.
Arkansas State Director of Athletics Terry Mohajir announced Monday that the A-State football team has reached a one-year agreement with Montana State University that will bring the Bobcats to Jonesboro for the Red Wolves’ 2014 season opener, completing the Red Wolves 2014 football schedule.
The addition of Montana State completes A-State’s 2014 non-conference schedule, which also includes road games at Tennessee and Miami and a home contest against Utah State. Arkansas State will host Montana State on Saturday, Aug. 30, marking the second consecutive year the Red Wolves will open their season with a home game.
Prior to the 2013 and 2014 seasons, Arkansas State had played just two home openers in Jonesboro since 1996. Under the direction of new head coach Blake Anderson, the three-time defending Sun Belt Conference champions will begin back-to-back seasons with a game in Jonesboro for the first time since 1987-88. Dating back to the 2005 campaign, A-State has won its last 10 home openers at Centennial Bank Stadium.
“We’re excited our fan base will have the opportunity to watch our season opener right here in Jonesboro for the second straight year,” said Mohajir. “We also wanted to begin the Blake Anderson era at Centennial Bank Stadium and made that a priority for our fans. We appreciate Montana State agreeing to play us on short notice after Jackson State withdrew from their original commitment to be a part of our 2014 schedule.”
Competing in the Big Sky Conference, Montana State compiled a 7-5 overall record and 5-3 mark in league play last season. The 2014 contest will mark the fourth all-time meeting between the Red Wolves and Bobcats, but the first since the 1984 campaign. The two teams first played during the 1960 season. Including Montana State, Southern Utah and North Dakota, A-State has played three current members of the Big Sky Conference all-time.
A week after facing Montana State, the Red Wolves will play Tennessee at Neyland Stadium on Sept. 6. They will remain on the road for a Sept. 13 contest against Miami, which is the first game of a home-and-home series with the Hurricanes. The return game that will bring Miami to Centennial Bank Stadium for the first time in school history is set to be played in 2017.
A-State will conclude its non-conference schedule Sept. 27 with a home outing against Utah State, which is also the first game of a home-and home series with the Aggies. A-State will face Utah State in Logan in 2016.
Season tickets for the 2014 campaign are on sale at the A-State Ticket Office, located at the Convocation Center’s lower red entrance. The ticket office can also be contacted at 870-972-2781 and tickets may be purchased online at tickets.astate.edu.
